Launching of the Ophthalmic Department

With the collaboration of the Medical Association of Ophthalmologists for Africa (AMOA), the HopeXchange Medical Centre has launched its first eye operations. Close to 50 patients with various eye conditions have been treated. These include several cataract surgeries. Dr. Mildred, a Ghanaian ophthalmologist at HopeXchange Medical Center,  performed for the first time a particular eye operation, under the supervision of Dr. Francecso Martelli, a consultant ophthalmic surgeon who visited the HopeXchange medical center for clinical and training purposes.

The objective of Hopexchange is to treat avoidable blindness, especially cataracts, glaucoma, trauma, and childhood blindness, through surgery and to increase the skills of the local eye-care specialists.
